Hey, welcome back everybody. Today, we're going to continue talking about the Center of Excellence, but we're going to focus on environment management. So let's get started.
First, what is an environment in Power Platform? It’s a container that allows administrators to manage apps, flows, connections, and other resources within Power Platform, along with permissions to allow organization members to use these resources.
Another piece of this is developing an environment strategy, which means configuring environments and other layers of data security in a way that supports productive development while securing and organizing resources.
An environment strategy within a tenant means configuring environments in a way that promotes productive development while securing and organizing those resources. A Microsoft document about establishing environment strategy offers excellent guidance and maps out what to consider when creating an environment strategy.
The CoE Toolkit provides tools to manage environments effectively. These tools support both environment strategy and environment management.
Inside the CoE environment, two apps appear: the Admin Environment Request and the Maker Environment Request apps. Admins can see both, while makers generally only see the Maker Environment Request app.
Opening the Maker Environment Request app displays pending environment requests. Makers can create new requests by selecting connectors to use within the environment, choosing administrators (with the requester automatically selected), naming the environment, selecting a region, choosing the type (production or sandbox), defining the purpose, assigning a business area, setting a timeline, and indicating if a Dataverse database is needed. These details help administrators approve or deny requests efficiently.
The Admin Environment Request app allows admins to review pending requests. This view includes request status, requester name, connector choices, environment type, region, expiration, business justification, assigned administrators, and data policies. Admins can add notes, email administrators for more details, approve, or reject requests.
Admins also have the ability to view and modify data policies tied to the requested environment and make decisions based on organizational strategy.
In summary, the CoE Toolkit offers powerful tools to manage environments in Power Platform. Makers can request environments with justification and details, while admins can review, adjust, and approve or reject those requests. This process helps maintain control, avoid sprawl, and ensure environments align with strategy while empowering makers to get what they need.
Thanks so much for joining everyone. I’ll catch you in my next video online.
